A removal is only half finished if the stump is still sitting there. Grinding it down below grade clears the way for new sod, a garden bed, or whatever comes next for that spot in the yard.
It also removes the tripping hazard and the spot where new sprouts tend to grow back up from the old root system if the stump is left in place.
Most stump grinding jobs can be scheduled right along with the removal, so the whole project wraps up in one visit instead of two separate appointments.
