San Antonio's Heat Is Pushing Live Oaks Past Their Limit

Post Copy

San Antonio's summer heat is testing even the toughest live oaks this year.

Thin caliche soil holds onto very little moisture, so triple-digit stretches show up fast as leaf scorch, early leaf drop, and thinning canopies across the city.

A stressed tree does not always look obviously sick. A slightly duller canopy or a branch going bare earlier than the rest of the tree can be the first sign worth a closer look.

Heat-stressed trees are also more vulnerable to pests and disease they would otherwise fend off on their own, which is why early attention matters most right now.
