Mulching is one of the best things you can do for your trees before San Antonio's summer heat peaks. A 3 to 4 inch layer of wood chip mulch out to the drip line retains moisture, moderates soil temperature, and improves the compacted soils common in Bexar County.
One thing to avoid: mulch piled against the trunk (the "mulch volcano" look). It traps moisture against the bark and creates conditions for rot and pest problems. Keep mulch several inches away from the trunk and spread it out toward the canopy edge instead.
Our ISA-certified arborists include mulching guidance as part of tree health consultations across San Antonio and surrounding areas. Getting this right in late May means your trees are protected through the hardest months of the year.
Call 210-251-4232 or visit texastreeauthority.com to schedule a consultation. Texas Tree Authority is open Monday–Friday 9am–6pm and Saturday 9am–2pm. #SanAntonioTrees #TreeHealth #ISACertified #SummerCare #Mulching
