Ice Storm Prep Pruning for Memphis Bradford Pears, Water Oaks, and Silver Maples

Post Copy

A coating of ice can add hundreds of pounds to a tree's branches, and Memphis trees with weak structure feel it first.

Bradford pears, water oaks, and silver maples are among the most common failures in Mid-South ice events, thanks to tight branch unions, brittle wood, or long, heavy limbs. Fall and early winter are the right time to address those weak points.

Preventive pruning reduces end weight on long limbs, removes deadwood, and corrects weak unions where possible. For a valued tree with a structural defect near a home, cabling may help, and in some cases removal is the safer choice.

Our ISA Certified Arborists assess each tree individually across Memphis, Cordova, and Lakeland, with a focus on keeping healthy trees standing through winter. A little work now can prevent a long cleanup later.
