October Is the Best Month to Plant a Replacement Tree in the Piedmont Triad

Post Copy

October is one of the best months to plant a new tree in the Piedmont Triad, especially where a tree was recently removed.

Soil across Kernersville, Winston-Salem, and Greensboro stays warm into November while the air cools, which is ideal for root growth. A tree planted now spends the winter establishing roots instead of fighting summer heat and drought, and it usually leafs out stronger in spring than one planted in April or May.

A few guidelines help a new tree get off to a good start: place large-growing species at least 15 to 20 feet from the house, set the root flare at soil level rather than burying it, and keep watering through the fall until the ground turns cold. Native trees such as red maple, willow oak, blackgum, and eastern redbud handle the region's red clay well.

Spartan Tree Service & Landscaping handles removals and stump grinding that clear the way for replanting across the Piedmont Triad.
