Powdery mildew is showing up on crape myrtles across the Piedmont Triad right now, especially after recent humid stretches. Look for a grayish-white, powdery coating on the leaves of trees around Kernersville, Clemmons, and High Point.
It rarely kills the tree outright, but it distorts new growth, limits flowering, and leaves the canopy looking stressed for the rest of the season. Trees planted close together or in shaded, poorly ventilated spots tend to be affected the most.
