Mid-summer marks peak season for Japanese beetles across the Piedmont Triad, and they feed on a wide range of ornamental trees, shrubs, and fruit trees. Affected leaves often become skeletonized, leaving only the veins intact while the rest turns brown and lace-like.
A light infestation typically will not seriously harm an otherwise healthy, established tree. Repeated years of heavy feeding, or an infestation affecting a young or already-stressed tree, can be more serious and may affect growth and overall health over time.
Spartan Tree Service & Landscaping serves Kernersville, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Clemmons, High Point, Advance, and Burlington with tree health assessments that evaluate the extent of insect damage and whether treatment or intervention is warranted.
Property owners noticing metallic green and copper beetles or heavily chewed leaves, especially on younger plantings, should have the damage assessed this summer.
