Once the leaves drop in the Laurel Highlands, the structure of every tree on your property is visible from the ground. Leaf drop comes early at our elevation, which makes October one of the best times to take a real look.
Dead limbs stand out as bare, gray branches with no small twigs or with bark sloughing away. Tight V-shaped unions where two trunks meet, cracks along a trunk or major limb, and broken branches hanging in the upper canopy are all easier to see now.
These are the issues that tend to fail under the first heavy, wet snow or ice in Somerset County. Spotting them in October leaves time for an ISA Certified Arborist to assess the tree and recommend pruning, cabling, or removal before winter, rather than after a limb is down on the driveway.

A real photo from an STS job of a bare deciduous tree after leaf drop, with a visible dead limb or split union, or an arborist pointing out a defect from the ground. Authentic local photos far outperform stock images.
