Government contractors working with the Department of Defense are now operating under a cybersecurity compliance framework that has real teeth. The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) requires organizations in the Defense Industrial Base to demonstrate that their IT environment meets specific security standards, and eventually those requirements will be verified by third-party assessment, not self-attestation.
For many small and mid-size contractors in Greater Atlanta and across Georgia, this is a significant operational challenge. CMMC compliance isn't just a policy document. It requires specific technical controls: access management, audit logging, incident response procedures, configuration management, and protection of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). Whether a contractor is working toward CMMC Level 1 or navigating the more demanding requirements of Level 2, the IT environment has to be built to support it.
SMS-ITC works with government contractors to assess their current environment against CMMC requirements, identify gaps, and build the technical and procedural controls needed to meet certification standards. Understanding federal compliance requirements is part of the work, not an add-on service we're learning as we go.

Avoid generic government or military imagery; keep the focus on the technical and business compliance angle.
