What Happens to the Roots and Wood Chips After Riverbend Grinds a Stump

Post Copy

Stump grinding removes a stump below ground level so the spot can be mowed, seeded, or covered with sod. It is one of the most common follow-up services after a tree removal in the Metro East, and it removes a mowing hazard for good.

The grinder reduces the stump to a mix of wood chips and soil, typically several inches below grade. Roots left underground break down slowly over several years, and most species do not resprout once the stump is gone. The chips can be reused as mulch in nearby beds, or raked out and replaced with topsoil so grass can fill in.

Riverbend Outdoor Services provides stump grinding, tree removal, trimming, and greenway waste hauling across Moro, Bethalto, Godfrey, Edwardsville, Alton, Wood River, and East Alton. The family-owned crew carefully plans grind depth and final cleanup around how the homeowner wants to use the space.
