Brown leaf edges on your Upstate SC trees this summer? Here's what it usually means

Post Copy

Crispy, browned leaf edges appearing on trees across Greenville and Greer right now are usually a sign of leaf scorch, not disease.

Once summer temperatures climb into the mid-90s, a tree can lose water through its leaves faster than its roots can replace it, especially in the compact Piedmont clay soil common throughout Upstate SC. Trees near pavement or south-facing walls tend to show symptoms first, along with younger trees whose root systems haven't fully spread yet.

Scorch alone usually isn't fatal, but the same symptoms can sometimes point to root compaction or a deeper watering issue worth catching early. Our certified arborists assess symptoms throughout Greenville, Greer, Taylors, Spartanburg County, and the surrounding Upstate SC area.
