There is a short window each fall to grind out old stumps before frost locks up the ground around Nisswa and Brainerd.
Once the soil freezes, stumps are harder to work around, and snow hides them until spring. Grinding them now lets the area settle over winter so it is ready for grass, gardens, or new plantings when lake season returns.
