Why Summer Pruning Requires Care, and What to Do Instead of Guessing

Post Copy

Summer pruning isn't always a bad idea — but it's easy to do more harm than good if you're not sure what you're removing and why.

Once trees are fully leafed out, large pruning cuts are slower to close and leave the tree more vulnerable to insect entry and disease. Heavy summer pruning can also stress trees that are already working hard to manage heat and drought. That doesn't mean nothing should happen in June — deadwood removal, clearance pruning near structures, and hazard limb removal are all appropriate this time of year. The key is knowing what you're actually looking at.

At New Leaf Tree Service, we assess each tree before we cut. Our crew understands what healthy growth looks like in the Brainerd Lakes area and how to time any work so the tree recovers well. We serve Nisswa, Baxter, Lake Shore, Breezy Point, and the surrounding communities.

If you have trees that need attention, call us for a free estimate: (218) 232-8417. We'll tell you honestly what should be done now and what can wait until the dormant season.

Authentic job photo preferred: a crew member assessing a tree from the ground or in a lift, or a clean before/after showing careful trimming versus an overgrown or hazard situation. A photo showing attention to detail and clean cuts is ideal. Real job documentation always outperforms stock.
