A Fall Walk Around the House Catches Small Problems Before They Become Remodeling Projects

Post Copy

Before the cold, wet months settle in over metro Atlanta, a slow walk around the outside of your home can tell you a lot. Many of the larger repair and remodeling projects professionals take on started as small issues that went unnoticed for a season or two.

A few things are worth checking: soft or discolored wood around windows, doors, and trim; cracked or missing caulk; gutters that overflow or downspouts that empty against the foundation; and soil that slopes toward the house instead of away from it. Inside, look for new stains on ceilings, doors that suddenly stick, or musty smells in a basement or crawlspace.

None of these means you need a big project right away. Catching them early and having a qualified professional take a look usually means a smaller fix now instead of a larger one later, and the NARI Atlanta member directory is a good place to find remodelers who handle this kind of work.

When you walk around your house this fall, what's the one spot you always keep an eye on?

Image / Media Suggestion

A real photo from a member job site showing a small exterior repair in progress, such as trim replacement around a window or door, with permission. Do not caption or name individuals. A branded Canva checklist graphic (windows, caulk, gutters, grading) also works well, especially as an Instagram carousel. No Google Drive image folder is set up for this client, so request a real photo from the chapter or a member firm, or use a branded Canva graphic with chapter colors. Real photos outperform stock images.
