The Three Clauses Homeowners Skip Reading Before Signing a Remodeling Contract

Post Copy

Most homeowners read the price on a remodeling contract closely and skim everything else. That's understandable, but a few clauses matter just as much as the bottom line, and skipping them is where a lot of project disputes start.

The payment schedule should tie draws to specific completed milestones, not just calendar dates. A change order clause should spell out exactly how a scope change gets priced and approved in writing before work continues. And a completion timeline should include what happens if the project runs past the agreed end date.

None of these are red flags on their own if they're written clearly. The problem is when they're vague, missing, or written entirely in the contractor's favor with no homeowner protections built in.

Have you ever run into a surprise mid-project because of something buried in the fine print? Visit nariatlanta.org to find a NARI Atlanta member contractor who works with clear, fair contracts from the start.
