Solving the Skilled Trades Shortage Starts With Awareness

Post Copy

We talk to remodeling firms every week who tell us the same thing: finding skilled tradespeople is harder than finding clients. Carpenters, electricians, and experienced project managers are retiring faster than new talent is entering the field, and that gap shows up on every project timeline.

The firms handling this well aren't waiting for the labor market to fix itself. They're building relationships with local technical schools, offering structured apprenticeships, and treating training as a core part of running the business rather than an afterthought. It takes longer to see the payoff, but it builds a bench of talent competitors don't have.

As a chapter, we see part of our role as connecting members to these workforce development resources and making the case, publicly, that the trades are a legitimate and rewarding career path. That message needs to reach students and career-changers long before they're deciding what to do after high school.

How is your firm approaching recruitment and training right now? We would like to hear what is working.
