How to vet a contractor before you sign: what Atlanta homeowners should check first

Post Copy

Summer is peak season for remodeling projects in Atlanta, and it's also peak season for contractors taking on more work than they can deliver well.

Before you sign a contract for a kitchen remodel, bathroom renovation, addition, or deck build, a few steps can save you from a frustrating experience later. Ask to see a valid state contractor's license and confirm it's in good standing. Request proof of general liability insurance and workers' compensation, and verify it with the insurer directly. Check the Better Business Bureau and Google reviews, and look for patterns rather than individual outliers.

The contractors in the NARI Atlanta membership have met specific standards of professionalism and practice, and many hold nationally recognized certifications through NARI's credentialing programs. That's not just a membership card. It reflects a real commitment to doing the work correctly and treating customers professionally.
