Summer is one of the busiest seasons for remodeling projects in Georgia, and that means it's also when the most contractors are out actively seeking jobs. Before you commit to anyone, these four questions will tell you a lot about who you're dealing with.
1. Can you provide a written contract before any work begins? A professional always will. Hesitation here is a red flag, not a negotiating point.
2. Are you licensed and insured, and can you provide documentation? In Georgia, contractor licensing requirements vary by trade and jurisdiction. What matters is that they can actually produce the paperwork, not just say yes.
3. Who specifically will be doing the work on my property? Some contractors sell the job and then hand it off to whoever's available. Knowing who shows up matters, especially for interior work.
4. Do you belong to any professional associations or trade organizations? Association membership isn't required to do good work, but it's a meaningful indicator of someone who takes their profession seriously and operates within a peer accountability structure.
NARI Atlanta members are professional remodeling contractors who have agreed to a code of ethics and passed a vetting process. You can find them at nariatlanta.org.
