Ash trees across western Connecticut have been under sustained pressure from emerald ash borer, and the Naugatuck Valley is no exception.
Thinning canopy, bark splitting, and small D-shaped exit holes are signs an ash tree has been infested, often well before the damage is obvious from the street. Once a significant portion of the canopy dies back, the tree becomes structurally unreliable fast.
Dead ash limbs are notoriously brittle and prone to sudden failure, which makes timely removal a safety issue as much as a landscaping one.
