Fire Pit Season Brings Plate and Pipe Questions as Northwest Atlanta Evenings Cool Down

Post Copy

Fall brings a noticeable shift in what comes across our counter in Marietta. Landscape contractors, custom fabricators, and outdoor living builders across Northwest Atlanta ramp up fire pit, fire table, and outdoor fireplace work as evenings cool, and those projects put specific demands on material selection. That demand typically holds steady from early fall through the holiday season.

Heat cycling is the main consideration. Light-gauge sheet distorts and burns through under repeated fires, so fire rings and burn chambers are typically built from heavier mild steel plate or thick-wall pipe. Mild steel offers the best balance of cost, weldability, and durability, while stainless provides better long-term appearance at a higher material cost. Galvanized material should be kept away from any surface exposed to flame, since heating the zinc coating produces hazardous fumes.

For contractors running several of these builds through the season, cut-to-size plate and pipe with no minimum order keeps each project moving without tying up capital in full sheets or excess inventory. Processing material to final dimensions before it reaches the shop also means crews spend their time on fit-up, welding, and finishing instead of layout and cutting.

For teams building outdoor living features, which question comes up most often with clients: durability, appearance, or cost?
