Outdoor structural work, fencing, railings, gate frames, equipment stands, has to survive humidity, rain, and direct sun for years, not just look good on install day. Galvanized square steel gets a zinc coating that protects the base metal from corrosion, which makes it the default choice for a lot of exterior fabrication work in this climate.
The zinc layer sacrifices itself to protect the steel underneath, so even a scratch or a cut edge doesn't immediately expose bare metal to rust. That matters more here than in drier climates, given how much moisture Northwest Atlanta sees between spring storms and summer humidity.
We put together a full breakdown of what galvanized square steel is, when it makes sense over other coated or bare options, and where to find it, on our blog. Link in the comments if you're specifying an outdoor project this summer.
What's the last outdoor project where corrosion resistance mattered more than anything else on the spec sheet?
