Drilling metal: what actually matters when choosing the right drill and bit for the job

Post Copy

Not every drill setup works equally well across different metals, and using the wrong bit or wrong speed on stainless or hardened steel can ruin a bit fast and leave a rough hole that doesn't meet spec.

The right combination of drill type, bit material, and cutting speed depends on the metal you're working with: mild steel, aluminum, stainless, and brass all behave differently under a bit, and a setup optimized for one material can underperform or damage another.

We put together a guide on the blog that covers the practical differences in drill types for metal applications. Whether you're doing light fabrication or production drilling, it's worth a read. Link is in the comments.

What's the most frustrating drilling problem you've run into on a metalworking job? #MetalFabrication #Marietta
