6061 vs. 6063 Aluminum: Which One Does Your Project Need?

Post Copy

If you've ever ordered aluminum and wondered whether the grade mattered, here's a practical answer for two of the most common ones.

6061 is the workhorse. Higher strength, excellent machinability, handles structural loads well. It's the go-to for brackets, frames, machine parts, and anything that needs to hold up under stress.

6063 is the finisher. Slightly softer, but it takes anodizing beautifully and holds tight tolerances on extrusions. If you're working on architectural trim, window frames, or anything where surface appearance matters, 6063 is worth specifying.

Both are available at our Marietta location in a range of shapes and sizes. Not sure which fits your application? Call and ask.

Which aluminum grade do you reach for most often on your projects?
