Stump Grinding After a Lane County Removal: Grinding Depth, Surface Roots, and Replanting

Post Copy

Removing a tree is only half the job if a stump is still sitting in the middle of your Eugene or Springfield yard.

Lane Tree Doctor grinds stumps below grade so the area can be covered with soil, reseeded, or landscaped. Typical grinding goes several inches below the surface, and we go deeper where a lawn, patio, or new planting is planned. Large surface roots spreading from the stump can be ground out too, which helps with mowing and trip hazards.

What's left behind is a mix of wood chips and soil. The chips can be spread as mulch or hauled away, and we explain how the area will settle as remaining roots break down over the next year or two.

If you plan to replant, a new tree usually belongs a few feet away from the old stump site rather than directly on top of it. We walk through those options before the grinder ever starts.

A before/after pair from a real Lane Tree Doctor job: a stump in a lawn, then the ground-down area with chips or fresh soil. An in-progress shot of the stump grinder at work also performs well. Authentic job photos strongly preferred over stock.
