Branches Growing Into the Service Line to Your House Need the Utility and a Licensed Crew, Not a Pole Saw

Post Copy

Fall cleanup season brings out the pole saws, and one of the most common questions we hear is about branches growing into the wire that runs from the street to the house. Those limbs are worth dealing with before winter ice adds weight to them, but this is one job to keep off the weekend list.

A pole saw, a damp branch, or a limb that swings the wrong way can all conduct electricity, and a falling branch can pull the line right off the house. The power company handles work on its lines and can often disconnect service temporarily so the tree can be cut safely. A licensed tree crew handles the tree: reducing the limbs, steering growth away from the line, and cleaning up afterward.

Around Franklinville, Elmer, and Bridgeton, plenty of older properties have mature trees that grew up right alongside the lines, so this comes up often. Keeping safe clearance protects your home, your electrical service, and the tree itself.

Do you have branches touching the line to your house right now, or have you had one come down in a past storm?
