Spotted Lanternfly Egg Masses Are Turning Up on South Jersey Bark, Patio Furniture, and Trailers

Post Copy

Spotted lanternfly egg masses are showing up across Gloucester County on bark, fence posts, patio furniture, and trailers right now.

They look like gray smears of dried mud about an inch or two long, and each can hold dozens of eggs that hatch in spring. Scraping them off and dropping them into a bag with rubbing alcohol is one of the most useful fall steps a homeowner can take. Check the undersides of limbs, the lower trunk, and any gear or firewood headed out of the area.

Tree-of-heaven is the pest's favorite host, and stands along fence lines and lot edges keep drawing lanternflies back. Greg Smith Tree Service removes tree-of-heaven and cleans up the site completely, serving Sewell, Elmer, Vineland, and all of Gloucester County.

Close-up of a real spotted lanternfly egg mass on tree bark or a trailer surface from a local job, with a coin or finger for scale. A shot of a tree-of-heaven stand also works. Avoid stock insect photos.
