Summer tree pruning requires a different approach than dormant-season work, and knowing that difference matters for the long-term health of your trees.
Pruning during active growth removes energy the tree has already invested in new foliage. Cuts made in summer heat are also more exposed to insect activity and fungal disease. Good summer pruning is targeted: dead or damaged wood, crossing branches, and anything structurally problematic. Dead wood specifically should come out as soon as it's identified, regardless of season.
