Five Warning Signs Your Utah Tree Is Telling You It Needs Help

Post Copy

Trees don't announce problems the way a leaking pipe or a cracked window does. The signals are subtler, and by the time most homeowners notice something is wrong, the issue has often been developing for months. Knowing what to look for can make the difference between a treatment and a removal.

Here are five things worth paying attention to on your Salt Lake Valley property: (1) Dead or declining branches in the upper canopy, especially when the lower canopy looks healthy. (2) Bark that is cracking, peeling, or showing sunken spots, which can indicate fungal infection or vascular disease. (3) Mushrooms or fungal conks at the base of the trunk — these almost always signal internal decay. (4) Leaves that are smaller than usual, pale, or yellowish when surrounding trees look normal. (5) A canopy that looks noticeably thinner than it did a year ago, even accounting for seasonal variation.

Any one of these is worth a professional look before summer stress makes it worse. Our ISA Board Certified Master Arborist assesses each tree individually and gives you a straight answer about what's happening and what your options are.

An authentic photo of an arborist examining a tree with visible symptoms: dead branches, fungal growth, or unusual bark. A close-up of a specific symptom (mushrooms at the base, canker, dead upper canopy) is highly relevant and educational for homeowners.
