If a tall tree in your Roswell or Alpharetta yard started dropping yellow leaves well before everything else, there's a good chance it's a tulip poplar.
Tulip poplars are among the tallest trees in Metro Atlanta, and they respond to dry spells by shedding leaves early. Their wood is also relatively brittle, so stressed trees can drop small and mid-sized dead limbs, sometimes on calm days. They also tend to grow close to homes in older Alpharetta and Roswell subdivisions.
Early leaf drop on its own is usually a normal stress response. What deserves a closer look is dead wood in the upper crown, bark peeling away from the trunk, or a tree leaning toward the house or driveway.
Because poplars grow so tall, safe deadwood removal often requires climbing or crane access. Our crew has the equipment to handle these trees carefully around homes and fences. We clean up everything afterward and leave the yard ready for fall.
