Hot, dry weather is exactly when spider mites take off. They multiply fastest in high heat, and a tree already stressed by Kern County's summer conditions is an easy target.
The early signs are subtle: a dusty, stippled look on the leaves and fine webbing on the undersides of branches. By the time leaves are visibly bronzing or dropping, the infestation has usually been building for a while.
Trees under mite pressure need more than a hose-down. A proper treatment plan targets the mites without harming beneficial insects that would otherwise help keep populations in check.
