Valley heat and your trees: what summer stress looks like in Kern County

Post Copy

Bakersfield summers are some of the hottest in California, and the trees on your property feel every degree of it.

Valley heat, low humidity, and extended drought conditions create compounding stress on urban trees. Root damage from dry soil, bark cracking from direct sun exposure, and canopy dieback are common in Kern County during peak summer months. Trees that were borderline healthy entering the season often show visible problems by late summer.

A few things to watch for: premature leaf drop, wilting that doesn't recover overnight, thin or sparse canopy growth, and dieback at the branch tips. These signs are worth noting and having assessed before the problem advances further into the root system.

General Tree Service's ISA-certified arborist can assess what's actually happening and recommend targeted care: fertilization, deep root feeding, or targeted treatment based on the tree's specific condition.

Have you noticed any changes in the trees on your Bakersfield property as the heat has ramped up?
