A New Canaan homeowner called after noticing a large split forming between two major trunks of an oak that had likely stood on the property for close to a century.
Assessment showed the tree's overall health was strong, but the codominant trunk structure created a genuine risk of failure during a heavy storm. Removal would have meant losing a tree that anchored the entire front of the property.
Instead, our arborist installed a cabling system between the two trunks to reduce stress on the union and limit further spreading, giving the tree years of continued life while managing the structural risk.
Not every aging tree needs to come down. When the health is there, preservation is often the better long-term outcome, both for the tree and for the property it defines.
