Compacted soil near your driveway or new construction may be stressing your tree's roots

Post Copy

Roots need air and water to move through soil. Construction, regrading, or years of heavy foot traffic over the root zone compacts the ground and blocks both.

The damage doesn't show up right away. Thinning canopy or stunted growth a season or two later is often the first visible sign, long after the actual compaction happened.

Has your yard had any construction or heavy equipment work near a mature tree recently?
