Pruning Jacksonville Live Oaks the Right Way: Crown Thinning Instead of Topping

Post Copy

Jacksonville's live oaks are some of the most valuable trees in Northeast Florida, and how they are pruned decides how well they hold up for decades.

Topping, or cutting large limbs back to stubs, triggers weak, fast sprouts that break easily in the next tropical storm. Proper crown thinning removes select interior branches so wind passes through the canopy while the tree keeps its natural shape. It also means a healthier tree with fewer decay problems down the road.

Our crews also clear deadwood and raise low limbs over driveways and roofs in Orange Park, Fleming Island, and across Duval County. Every cut is made at the branch collar so the tree can seal the wound on its own. Late fall and winter are an excellent window for this work, when the canopy is easier to read and storm season has passed.

Throughout the work we protect your lawn and landscaping and haul away every branch, because zero property impact is a promise our family has kept for three generations.

Authentic job photos are strongly preferred over stock images. No individual staff should be named or identified.
