Why Cutting Limbs From a Ladder Is the Weekend Project Arborists Most Want Homeowners to Skip

Post Copy

Fall cleanup weekends often turn into a plan to take down that one limb hanging over the shed or the driveway. It looks simple from the ground, but cutting from a ladder is one of the riskiest jobs a homeowner can take on, and it is one we would always rather handle for you.

A limb that is cut free does not just fall straight down. It can swing back toward the trunk, kick off the ladder, or roll in a direction nobody expected, and there is no safe way to get out of its path while standing on a rung with a running saw. Even a modest branch can weigh far more than it looks, especially with green wood still full of water.

Our crews work from proper climbing systems and rigging, so heavy pieces are lowered under control instead of dropped. That is the difference training and the right equipment make, and it is why we are always glad to take a look at a limb you are unsure about, even if it seems like a small job.

Is there a branch on your property you have been thinking about cutting yourself this fall?
