Stump Grinding Stops an Old Stump From Sending Up Sprouts and Gives the Yard Back

Post Copy

A tree removal is not really finished while the stump is still sitting there. Old stumps get in the way of mowers, trip up kids and guests, and slowly attract carpenter ants and fungi as they decay. Some species, like maple, cherry, and tree of heaven, also keep sending up sprouts from the roots for years.

Our stump grinding service takes the stump down below the soil line and chews up the surface roots around it, which stops most of that regrowth and opens the space back up. We check for irrigation lines, landscape lighting, and nearby beds before we start, and protect anything worth protecting while we work.

When we finish, you choose what happens to the grindings. Many homeowners keep them as mulch for garden beds, while others want the spot cleared and leveled for topsoil and seed. Fall is a great time for this work in Baltimore County and York County, since the area can settle over winter and be ready for planting in spring.

If that old stump in your yard disappeared this week, what would you put in its place?

A real before/after pair from a Crass stump grinding job: a leftover stump with sprouts around it, then the same spot ground down and raked level. Before/after pairs are the highest-performing format for tree service. Authentic job photos only.
