What a Certified Arborist Checks During a Tree Health Visit at Your Houston Home

Post Copy

A certified arborist tree health visit covers every part of a tree, from the root flare to the top of the crown, plus the setting around it.

At the base, Champions Tree Preservation's arborists check for buried root flares, girdling roots, and soil piled up from past landscaping. On the trunk, they look for cracks, cavities, loose bark, and fungal growth. In the canopy, they assess leaf density, deadwood, weak branch unions, and how the crown sits over the home, driveway, or pool.

The setting matters just as much. Houston clay soils, irrigation habits, recent construction, and nearby trees all shape tree health, especially in The Woodlands and Tomball, where homes are built into native pines and hardwoods.

Every visit ends with a clear, prioritized plan: what needs attention now, what can wait, and what simply needs watching. It is the foundation of our preservation-first approach across Greater Houston.
