Cabling and Bracing Saves Storm-Weakened Trees That Don't Need to Come Down

Post Copy

A tree with a split trunk union or a heavy leaning limb doesn't automatically need to be removed. In a lot of cases, cabling and bracing can support the weak point and let the tree keep growing safely for years, sometimes decades, longer.

Cabling installs a flexible steel cable high in the canopy to limit how far a weak union can spread under wind or weight, while bracing uses rigid rods to reinforce a split or cracked area lower on the trunk. Both are common fixes for mature Houston trees that have survived years of storms but developed structural weak points along the way.

Since we're a preservation company first, this is often where we start the conversation instead of jumping straight to removal, especially with older trees that add real character and shade to a property.

Do you have a tree with a lean or split that's had you worried, but you'd rather keep it than lose it?
