Pruning is not a single service. Structural pruning and aesthetic pruning accomplish different things, and a tree that receives only one over its lifetime can develop significant problems that aren't visible until they become costly.
Structural pruning focuses on the tree's long-term architecture: removing co-dominant stems with included bark, establishing appropriate growth patterns while a tree is young and correctable, and managing limb weight distribution to reduce future hazard risk. Aesthetic pruning addresses appearance, clearance, and the visual relationship between the tree and its surroundings. Both types have legitimate purposes, but the wrong approach repeated over multiple years creates weaknesses that are difficult and sometimes impossible to undo.
A certified arborist evaluates a tree for both structural and aesthetic needs and can explain which type of work is warranted, in what combination, and what the risks are of deferring either. Boutte Tree's team of ISA Certified Arborists serves residential, commercial, and institutional clients throughout metro Atlanta.
