Atlanta's Urban Canopy Is Under Drought Pressure. Here's What That Means.

Post Copy

Atlanta's tree canopy is facing real stress right now, and the U.S. Drought Monitor data makes the situation clear.

As of late March, 100% of Georgia is in drought. More than 80% of the state is in severe drought or worse, and over 42% has reached extreme drought levels. At D2 and D3, arborists stop talking about stress and start talking about mortality. Trees that were already weakened by soil compaction, construction activity, or past storm damage are most vulnerable.

Urban trees face a compounding challenge during drought: impervious surfaces reduce water infiltration, root zones are often restricted, and competition from turf and other plantings limits access to what moisture is available. A tree that looks healthy at the surface may be struggling in ways that won't become obvious until the damage is done.

Our ISA-certified arborists are assessing drought-stressed trees across Metro Atlanta. If you have a tree you're concerned about, now is the right time to get a professional evaluation. What trees on your property do you watch most closely during dry stretches like this one? #TreeCare #AtlantaTrees

Photo showing drought impact on an urban tree: thin or sparse canopy, flagging leaves, or visibly dry root zone. An aerial or elevated shot showing canopy coverage would also work well for this topic. Authentic crew/job photos preferred. Client image folder
