Soil Testing Under an Aurora White Ash Revealed Why Trimming Alone Wasn't Helping

Post Copy

A mature white ash in an Aurora backyard had bare limbs and dull, faded leaves, and light trimming had not made a difference. The homeowners wanted to save the tree, so a Bear Creek ISA Certified Arborist looked below the canopy instead of only at it.

The health assessment covered canopy density, boring insects, and fungal disease, and the arborist probed the soil under the mulch ring. Soil testing showed compaction and a pH imbalance, which explained why the tree struggled to take up water and nutrients no matter how it was pruned.

The plan treated roots and crown together: deep root fertilization to deliver nutrients where the tree could use them, structural pruning to remove rubbing and weak branches, and reshaping piled mulch into a donut-shaped ring clear of the trunk. When a late frost slowed uptake, the crew returned for a second deep-root watering, and the homeowners soon said the tree was already looking brighter.

Photos from the Aurora white ash restoration job: the mature ash in the backyard, soil testing or deep root fertilization in progress, or the reshaped donut mulch ring. If job photos aren't available, use a real Bear Creek photo of a crew member doing a soil or root-zone assessment. Authentic job photos strongly outperform stock images.
