Early Summer Insect and Disease Watch: What Colorado Trees Are Up Against

Post Copy

Summer is prime season for some of the most damaging tree pests and diseases in the Denver and Englewood area, and many homeowners don't notice the signs until significant damage has already occurred.

A few things Bear Creek's arborists are watching for this time of year: bark beetle activity in pine and spruce trees (look for small entry holes and sawdust-like frass at the base), fungal leaf diseases that show up as dark spots or powdery coatings on leaves, and early signs of iron chlorosis — a nutrient deficiency common in Colorado soils that causes leaves to yellow while the veins stay green.

None of these problems have to mean losing a tree. Caught early, most are treatable. Caught late, the options get much more limited and expensive.

If something on your property looks off right now, it's worth having one of our ISA Certified Arborists take a look. Free assessments, no pressure.

Have you noticed any unusual spots, holes, or color changes on the trees in your yard this season?
