Weak-Wooded Elms, Silver Maples, and Willows in Older Treasure Valley Neighborhoods

Post Copy

Siberian elms, silver maples, and willows in older Treasure Valley neighborhoods can drop big limbs without warning, even on calm days.

These fast-growing trees were planted widely in Nampa, Caldwell, and Boise's North End decades ago because they delivered shade quickly. Their wood is relatively weak and brittle, they often form tight branch unions, and they sprout clusters of fast shoots where limbs were cut or broken in the past. Interior decay is common as they age, so a limb that looks healthy and fully leafed out can still fail, with or without wind or an early wet snow.

Many mature trees can be made safer with pruning that reduces heavy end weight, removes deadwood, and thins weakly attached sprouts. ArborSafe's ISA Certified Arborists assess whether a tree is a good candidate for pruning or has reached the point where removal is the responsible choice, serving Ada and Canyon Counties. #TreeCare #TreasureValley #BoiseIdaho
