Verticillium wilt lives in the soil and attacks a tree's water tissue from the inside. It often shows up as one branch or one side of the canopy wilting while the rest looks fine.
Treasure Valley maples and ash trees are especially prone to it, and it can take years to become obvious. There's no cure, but catching it early slows the progression significantly.
