Those green, ball-shaped clusters in cottonwoods and black locusts around the valley aren't a harmless quirk.
Mistletoe is a parasitic plant that draws directly from a tree's water and nutrient supply. A tree can carry a light load for years without obvious symptoms, but as clusters multiply, host branches weaken and the tree becomes more vulnerable to drought stress and storm damage.
Pruning out infected branches while the load is still light is far more effective than waiting until the infestation spreads through the canopy.
