Automatic sprinklers keep lawns green, but they aren't built to keep trees healthy through Treasure Valley summer heat.
A quick daily cycle only wets the top few inches of soil, training roots to stay shallow in the driest part of the ground. Trees do better with deep, infrequent watering, soaking the soil 12 to 18 inches down once or twice a week, which builds deeper roots that hold up through extended heat.
Newer plantings and trees near turf irrigation often show the most stress right now, even on a daily watering schedule. The pattern matters more than the frequency.
