Moving a Mature Tree Instead of Removing It: How ArborSafe Approaches Transplanting

Post Copy

Removal is usually the last option we recommend, not the first. When a healthy tree is standing in the way of a new driveway, addition, or landscape redesign, transplanting can save a tree that took decades to grow instead of cutting it down and starting over.

Not every tree is a good transplant candidate. Size, root spread, species, and the tree's current health all factor into whether a move will succeed. A root-bound tree in compacted soil is a much harder mover than one growing in open, well-drained ground, which is why we assess the whole site before recommending it.

Treasure Valley properties with mature trees carry real value that a young replacement tree can't replicate for years, sometimes decades. Transplanting protects that investment when it's a realistic option.

Do you have a tree on your property that you'd want to save if a future project ever put it in the way?
