When a loved one needs someone at home around the clock, families usually hear two options: 24-hour care and live-in care. They sound like the same thing, but the difference matters for both the level of support and the cost.
With 24-hour care, caregivers work in rotating shifts, so someone is awake and alert at every hour of the day and night. It's often the better fit when a loved one is up frequently at night, needs help with repositioning or toileting overnight, or is living with dementia that brings nighttime restlessness.
With live-in care, one caregiver stays in the home for several days at a time and needs a private place to sleep and a real break overnight. It works well when a loved one generally sleeps through the night but needs help throughout the day. Our RN supervisor and care coordinators help families compare both options during a free in-home assessment, and plans can change as needs change.
