Labor Day Gatherings Prompt the Referrals Discharge Planners See in September

Post Copy

Every September, discharge planners and case managers across Metro Atlanta see a small but real bump in home care inquiries, one that often traces back to Labor Day weekend gatherings surfacing changes a phone call every few weeks didn't reveal, from repeated stories to a kitchen that looks different than it used to.

For referral partners, this pattern is worth knowing because it shifts the framing of a September conversation. A family calling this month is often not in crisis. They are early in the process, having just noticed something rather than reacting to an acute event, which means there is more room to think through options like hourly versus live-in care.

That distinction matters for intake. Families who reach out proactively, before a hospitalization or fall forces the decision, tend to have more time to understand what their Long-Term Care Insurance or VA benefits actually cover, and our RN supervisor is available to walk through those options with families and referral partners alike.

What patterns do you see in your own referral volume this time of year, and how does it change the way you approach those early conversations?
