"Home care" can sound vague until you break down what actually happens during a shift. A Certified Nursing Assistant's visit typically includes help with bathing and dressing, medication reminders, meal preparation, light housekeeping, and mobility support, getting safely in and out of a chair, a bed, or the shower.
But the job is more than a checklist. A good CNA also watches for changes: a new bruise, a skipped meal, confusion that seems different from the day before. Those observations get communicated back to the RN supervisor managing the care plan, which is part of what separates a properly supervised care model from an unsupervised one.
Every shift also includes something harder to quantify: companionship. For many clients, the CNA is the most consistent daily human connection they have, and that steady presence matters as much as any task on the list.
